Border Security Force (BSF) troops on July 14 recovered a packet of heroin weighing 6.250 kg from fields near Kakkar village in Ajnala, Amritsar district. The packet, wrapped in yellow tape and fitted with a wooden hook, is suspected to have been dropped via drone.

On July 14, Punjab Police on day 135 of its “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign registered 72 first information reports (FIRs), arrested 109 drug smugglers and seized 2.7 kg of heroin, 1.5 kg of opium, 42 kg of poppy husk and INR 7.18 lakh drug money from their possession, across Punjab.

On July 14, Gurjeet Singh Khalsa, a member of the Sarb Dharam Beadbi Rokko Morcha who has been protesting atop a telecom tower in Samana, Patiala district, for over 275 days, refused to climb down until the Punjab Prevention of Offences Against Holy Scriptures Bill, 2025, is passed and receives Presidential assent. The Bill, tabled in the Punjab Assembly on July 14, proposes life imprisonment and a fine of up to INR 10 lakh for acts of sacrilege.

The Golden Temple in Amritsar received a bomb threat via email on July 14, prompting a swift response from Punjab Police, including the deployment of bomb squads and enhanced security measures. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) lodged a formal complaint, while Amritsar Member of Parliament (MP) Gurjeet Singh Aujla called for immediate and firm action. Authorities have assured the public that security has been intensified and urged citizens to remain calm yet vigilant.

Punjab Police on July 14 arrested two individuals, identified as Surjit Singh and Tarun Kumar Sharma, and seized 52 grams of ICE (methamphetamine) and a SUV car from their possession, near Handesra village in Sahibzada Ajit Singh (SAS) Nagar district. Police stated that the accused had procured ICE from Delhi and Noida with the intention of selling them in Punjab.

On July 12, a key witness in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, Harpal Kaur Bedi, told a special court in New Delhi that she was not pressured by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or Sikh leaders to name former Congress Member of Parliament (MP) Jagdish Tytler. During cross-examination, she denied fabricating her testimony or falsely implicating the accused. Bedi had earlier stated that she named Tytler only in 2016, after the death of her son, for whose safety she had previously feared. The case pertains to the killing of three Sikhs—Sardar Thakur Singh, Badal Singh, and Gurcharan Singh—at Pul Bangash on November 1, 1984. The court has listed the matter for further hearing on July 21.

Uttar Pradesh (UP) Chief Minister (CM) Yogi Adityanath, while flagging off the UP-Delhi Balidan Sandesh Yatra in Lucknow on July 12, stated that attempts were being made to create divisions between Hindus and Sikhs and urged people to remain vigilant. He referred to the arrest of Chhangur Baba in Balrampur, alleging that he operated a INR 100 crore religious conversion racket funded primarily from the Middle East. Punjab Police on July 11 arrested three individuals, identified as Inderpal Bishnoi, Sandeep Khichad and Pawan Khichad, for providing shelter to the assailants involved in the July 7 murder of Abohar businessman Sanjay Verma, from Sriganganagar in Sriganganagar district in Rajasthan. The police revealed that a foreign-based handler had transferred INR 1.4 lakh to their bank accounts for facilitating the crime. The main assailants, Shakti, Rajinder alias Billa, and Jaskaran alias Katta, are currently absconding, while two others, Jaspreet and Ram Rattan, were killed in a police encounter. The prime suspect, Aarzoo Bishnoi alias Naveen Kumar, an aide of Lawrence Bishnoi, reportedly fled abroad.
