Khalistani terrorist and chief of the banned Khalistani outfit Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, issued a threat via a video on January 21, vowing to target the Republic Day Parade on January 26 to prevent President Droupadi Murmu from unfurling the Tricolour. In the video, Pannun warned Delhi residents against sending children to the parade, claiming "Khalistani vigilantes will perform an action," and disclosed that SFJ had allocated a USD 125,000 budget for the attack. The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has been instructed to investigate the threat.

The special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Mohali, Sahibzada Ajit Singh (SAS) Nagar district, on January 21, denied bail to Rajanpreet Singh, one of the accused in the 2021 Ludhiana court complex bomb blast case. Rajanpreet, arrested in August 2022, was accused of involvement in narcotics smuggling and links with Pakistan-based arms smugglers. The NIA stated that he was part of a terror gang responsible for the blast, which killed the bomb handler and injured five others. Investigations into recent incidents of organised crime in Punjab have revealed that, under the guidance of Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Khalistani militants, foreign-based gangsters, and narcotic smugglers are collaborating to incite violence in the region. According to sources in the Punjab Police, senior officials, including DGP Gaurav Yadav, have briefed officers on the growing interoperability between these groups, particularly in extortion-related violence and grenade attacks. A unified strategy involving counter-intelligence, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF), and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) has been implemented to dismantle the network. The police are also focusing on thorough investigations and documentation to strengthen cases and ensure longer sentences for criminals.

Jhinda cited advice from senior members, who warned that his resignation could weaken the group and benefit the opposition. Based in the United States (US), Passia is linked to Pakistan-based terrorist Harwinder Singh alias Rinda and is accused of orchestrating grenade attacks and extortion in Punjab. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) recently announced a INR 5 lakh reward for his arrest, citing involvement in 17 criminal cases, including a Chandigarh grenade attack in September 2024. Punjab police claim progress in solving recent attacks attributed to him and his network.

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema on January 19 in Chandigarh stated that the meeting of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) members, initially scheduled for January 21, has been deferred to January 22 to address concerns over alleged ineligible voters in the preliminary voter lists for SGPC elections.
