Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, after chairing a meeting of Sikh clergy on December 28, warned that action would be taken as per panthic traditions if the state government continued to “interfere in the internal affairs of Sikhs.” The decree stated that any political party doing so would be answerable to Sri Akal Takht Sahib and deemed guilty of betraying the Panth. The statement followed Punjab Police registering an FIR on December 7 against 16 individuals, mostly former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) officials and staffers, in connection with 328 missing saroops, nearly five years after the issue surfaced.

Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Mann on December 27 said the state was gaining the upper hand against drugs and organized crime, citing large-scale arrests, high conviction rates, and intensified action against criminal networks. Reviewing police performance, he said sustained enforcement, tighter investigations, and zero political interference had led to a “clear shift from rhetoric to results.” Mann said that over the past three-and-a-half years, 85,418 drug smugglers were arrested, with NDPS Act convictions reaching 88%. Since his government took office, 63,053 cases have been registered, with recoveries including 5,119.9 kg of heroin, 3,458.5 kg of opium, 5.8 kg of cocaine, 82 kg of ICE, nearly five crore capsules, and INR 52.6 crore in drug money. In 2025 alone, after the launch of Yudh Nashian Virudh on March 1, police registered 30,144 FIRs and arrested 40,302 smugglers. Mann said a multi-pronged strategy of enforcement, de-addiction, and prevention—led by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force—had delivered significant results. On organised crime, he said Punjab Police arrested 916 gangsters, neutralised 13, busted 389 modules, and recovered 594 weapons between January 1 and December 17, 2025.

According to reports, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) is set to take over the case related to the grenade attack on YouTuber Navdeep Singh alias Roger Sandhu in March 2025. The case files, currently before a local court, will be transferred to the NIA’s special court in Mohali. Police records list 18 accused, of whom 10 have been arrested, while one has died. The main accused are Pakistan-based don Shahzad Bhatti and Zeeshan Akhtar of Shankar village in Nakodar in Jalandhar district. Akhtar and six other wanted accused are reportedly outside the country.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav, in a year-end briefing on December 23, said the Internal Security Wing busted 19 terror modules in 2025, solved 12 major terror cases, and arrested 131 persons. Seizures included nine rifles, 188 pistols/revolvers, 12 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 11.62 kg of RDX, 54 hand grenades, 32 detonators, four rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), a rocket launcher sleeve, timer switches, walkie-talkies, and remote-controlled devices. He said the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and field units dismantled 416 gangster modules, arrested 992 criminals, and seized 620 weapons and 252 vehicles. With CBI coordination, 11 Red Notices and two Blue Notices were secured, leading to the deportation or arrest of gangsters like Anmol Bishnoi, Parminder Singh alias Pindi, Sukhdev Kumar alias Manish Bedi, and Sajan Masih alias Goru.
