Poet Jaimal Singh Padda was murdered on March 17, 1988, just outside his home in Lakhan ka Padda village in Kapurthala district by members of the Khalistan Commando Force (KCF), who later claimed responsibility for his murder. The committee comprising of Wassan Singh Zaffarwal, Gurbachan Singh Manochahal, Dalbir Singh, Uday Singh, Dalwinder Singh, Subegh Singh, and Gurdev Singh criticized Darshan Singh Ragi for condemning the resolution passed during January 1986 Sarbat Khalsa declaring the creation of Khalistan.
