The Border Security Force (BSF) on November 25 arrested two men, identified as Karnail Singh and Gurpreet Singh alias Lovepreet Singh, and subsequently recovered 10 packets of heroin — 5.414 kg wrapped in yellow tape — along with a Chinese pistol, four magazines, and 12 rounds of .30-bore ammunition in Chak Tahliwala in Fazilka district. The interrogation of the suspects led to a raid on the house of one Baljinder Singh, resulting in the recovery, and efforts are underway to arrest him.

According to reports, a grenade was allegedly thrown in front of the City Police Station in Gurdaspur on the evening of November 25, just hours before Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Mann was scheduled to visit the district to inaugurate a sugar mill, in Gurdaspur district. The incident triggered an explosion, even as the police went into overdrive to deny that it had occurred. The explosion reportedly injured the wife of a local BJP leader after a splinter struck her, though a police claimed she was hurt “due to some other reason and not due to the blast.” Later, terrorist outfit, Khalistan Liberation Army (KLA) claimed responsibility in a social media post, warning that such attacks would continue unless the “Hindu community stopped speaking against Khalistan.” Police, however, questioned the authenticity of the claim, calling it “fake,” and said they were verifying the contents of a related video. Sources suggested that officials were downplaying the incident to prevent panic among residents.

Officials report that cross-border cartels are increasingly recruiting minors to push narcotics and weapons from Pakistan into Punjab, exploiting their vulnerability and the lighter penalties under the Juvenile Justice Act. Senior police and Border Security Force (BSF) officers confirmed that juveniles were arrested in several recent operations involving drug and weapons consignments. They noted that Pakistan-based handlers and their local networks are using poverty, peer pressure, and addiction to lure minors into these activities. “The cartels know that minors cannot be punished severely under the Juvenile Justice Act,” said Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.

In a video message, Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on November 23 claimed that the rise of Hindutva poses a serious threat to minorities in India. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has turned the Babri Masjid demolition into a political spectacle driven by anti-Muslim sentiment. Pannun appealed to Muslims to unite against what he described as Modi’s oppressive rule, asserting that after the creation of Khalistan, the Babri Masjid would be rebuilt at the site of the Ram Mandir. He further alleged that on November 25, Modi would promote extremist Hindutva inside the Ram Mandir, and urged Muslims to form a human chain in Ayodhya to oppose the move. Pannun concluded by saying that Muslims must be prepared to make sacrifices to safeguard their faith and history.
