Amritsar Police on December 8 arrested six alleged operatives of a Pakistan-backed cross-border arms-smuggling module, identified as Gurbir Singh alias Sonu, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopa, Gorka Singh alias Gora, Rajwinder Singh alias Raju, Jaspal Singh alias Jass, and a 16-year-old boy and seized six pistols, including five .30-bore pistols and one 9mm PX5 pistol, in Amritsar district. The preliminary probe found that the accused were in direct contact with a Pakistan-based handler through social media, receiving coordinates to retrieve and move weapon consignments. The gang was supplying these weapons to criminals in the Majha and Doaba regions in Punjab for nefarious activities.

Bhojpuri playback singer and actor Pawan Singh on December 8 filed a complaint with Mumbai Police after he allegedly received a threat call from unidentified persons claiming to be from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The caller warned Singh, through his manager, not to work with or share the stage or screen with Salman Khan, threatening serious consequences if he did so.

In an affidavit submitted to the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC), the Punjab government’s Department of Home Affairs sought the dismissal of Khadoor Sahib Member of Parliament (MP) Amritpal Singh’s parole plea to attend the ongoing winter session of Parliament, stating that he was conspiring with anti-national elements and posed a serious threat to state security. The affidavit argued that the gravity of the detention grounds and the petitioner’s conduct required his continued, uninterrupted detention for the full 12-month period from April 23, in the interest of state security and public order.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on December 8 welcomed the United Kingdom (UK)’s decision to sanction a British Sikh businessman, Gurpreet Singh Rehal and an entity, Babbar Akali Lehar, linked to organisations involved in terrorism in India. He said the move strengthens the global fight against terrorism and extremism and helps curb illicit financial flows and transnational crime networks. Jaiswal added that such individuals and entities pose a threat not only to India and the UK but to people worldwide, and reiterated India’s commitment to working closely with the UK on counter-terrorism and security cooperation. On December 4, the UK imposed an asset freeze and director disqualification on Gurpreet Singh Rehal and sanctioned Babbar Akali Lehar for promoting and supporting the Khalistani terrorist organisation Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), marking the first use of Britain’s Domestic Counter-Terrorism Regime.

Advocate Jaspal Singh Manjhpur, counsel for jailed British national Jagtar Singh alias Jaggi Johal—an accused in a series of targeted killings in Punjab—plans to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC) to recover Johal’s belongings from the Baghapurana police in Moga district. The move comes after Johal’s gold chain, ring, and INR 5,000 in cash were found missing from police custody. Only his mobile phone was returned on December 4. The issue surfaced after Johal was acquitted in a terror-funding case in March 2025, prompting a petition for the release of items seized by Moga police during his 2017 arrest in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Johal still faces eight other cases related to targeted killings from 2016–17, currently being investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and is lodged in a Delhi jail.

The Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) on December 6 arrested a wanted member of the Valmiki gang carrying a reward of INR 5,000, identified as Akash Saxena, in the Roorkee area of Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. The STF recently registered a case against gang leader Praveen Valmiki and his associates based on confidential inputs. The gang is accused of forging documents and illegally occupying land worth crores.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang targeted farmer Zishan Zulfiqar’s farmhouse, resulting in large-scale vandalism, arson, and looting, in Chiutaha village, Bettiah, West Champaran district of Bihar. According to Zulfiqar, around 200 armed men stormed the property, broke down walls, looted cattle and stored wheat and paddy, and eventually set the farmhouse on fire. The attackers were led by Shashank Pandey, a known Bishnoi gang operative, who allegedly held Zishan at gunpoint and demanded the property’s transfer as extortion. Police have arrested four individuals, including Shashank Pandey, in connection with the attack.
