The Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC) on December 1 directed the Punjab government to submit the “foundational material” supporting its decision to deny parole to Khadoor Sahib Member of Parliament (MP) Amritpal Singh for attending the winter session of Parliament. The state argued that even “a single speech” by Amritpal—detained under the National Security Act (NSA) in Dibrugarh Jail, Assam, since April 2023— “can set the five rivers afire.” The court sought documentary justification for this claim before proceeding further.

On December 1, Punjab Police, on day 275 of its “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, registered 61 first information reports (FIRs), arrested 77 drug smugglers and seized 7.3 kg of heroin, 10 quintals of poppy husk, 547 intoxicant pills and INR 5,500 drug money from the possession of arrested persons, across the state.

In the nine months since the launch of the decisive anti-drug campaign Yudh Nashian Virudh on March 1, 2025, Punjab Police have registered 26,256 first information reports (FIRs) and arrested 38,687 drug smugglers, seizing 1,714 kg of heroin. They have also recovered 561 kg of opium, 266 quintals of poppy husk, 40 kg of charas, 556 kg of ganja, 21 kg of ICE, 42 lakh intoxicant pills/tablets, and INR 14.83 crore in drug money.

The Amritsar Police Commissionerate on December 1 arrested two accused, identified as Sagar and Mandeep Kumar alias Kali and subsequently recovered 1 kg of contraband and four pistols, one 9 mm and three .32 bore, from a location identified by them in Tarn Taran district.

On November 30, Punjab Police, on day 274 of its “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, registered 59 first information reports (FIRs), arrested 74 drug smugglers and seized 1.5 kg of heroin, 1.6 kg of ganja, 25 kg of poppy husk, 349 intoxicant pills and INR 4.59 lakhs drug money from the possession of arrested persons, across the state.

Moga Police on November 30 arrested four persons, including three women, for allegedly attempting to send 450 grams of opium to Canada through a courier service. Police said the prime accused, Mandeep Kaur, had packed the opium in a sweets box for dispatch to her Canada-based husband, Sartaj Singh, on September 29. Her mother-in-law, Gulshanjeet Kaur, along with Kuldeep Kaur and Manjit Singh, have also been named in the case.

Punjab Police on November 30 reiterated that the arrest of Kanchanpreet Kaur, wife of Canada-based gangster Amritpal Singh Bath, was based on concrete evidence of her active role in the criminal syndicate run by her husband, adding that there is sufficient material on record to file an appeal. Superintendent of Police (Investigation), Tarn Taran, Riputapan Singh, said further investigation will continue as per law in FIR No. 208/25 registered at Police Station Jhabal, in which Kanchanpreet Kaur was released by the court.

According to reports, Nuh-based lawyer Rizwan Ali, arrested on November 26 in Gurgaon, Haryana, for alleged links with Pakistani terror outfits, had been channeling funds to create unrest in Punjab. Investigation of his three bank accounts revealed that he was receiving money online from Pakistan, which he withdrew and sent to Punjab through ‘human couriers’. The funds were allegedly delivered to a Jalandhar-based businessman to finance Khalistani operatives and arms suppliers. Police have arrested the businessman and are examining his bank records, mobile phones, and transaction history.

Border Security Force (BSF) Inspector General (Punjab Frontier) Atul Fulzele stated in Amritsar on November 30 that weapon-dropping from Pakistan has increased since Operation Sindoor, with BSF recovering large quantities of arms and ammunition air-dropped by drones from across the border. This year, BSF recovered over 200 weapons—mainly pistols, along with some AK-47 rifles—265 magazines, 3,625 live rounds, 10 kg of explosives, and 12 hand grenades. Highlighting achievements for 2025, he said BSF seized 272 drones entering from Pakistan and recovered 367.788 kg of heroin, 19,033 kg of ICE (methamphetamine), and 14.437 kg of opium. Punjab Frontier BSF also apprehended 251 Indian suspects, 18 Pakistani nationals, three Bangladeshi nationals, and four Nepali nationals, and neutralised three Pakistani intruders.

A Delhi court on November 29 extended the National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody of deported gangster Anmol Bishnoi for seven days, till December 5. Anmol—wanted for the killing of NCP leader Siddique, the April 2024 firing at actor Salman Khan’s residence, and the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala—was “removed” from the US on November 18 and arrested by NIA on November 19.

On November 29, Punjab Police, on day 273 of its “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, registered 52 first information reports (FIRs), arrested 67 drug smugglers and seized 237 grams of heroin, 100 grams of opium, 481 intoxicant pills and INR 1960 drug money from the possession of arrested persons, across the state.

According to reports, jailed gangster Anmol Bishnoi, currently in National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody, fears he may be “targeted and killed” by Pakistan-based gangster Shehzad Bhatti, allegedly in retaliation for his recent social media posts. Bishnoi has filed a protection plea, stating that he and his family face constant threats, causing “fear, mental trauma, and apprehension of imminent danger.” He has requested the court to direct the investigating agency to provide adequate armed protection during his transit from the NIA headquarters to the court.

According to reports, the interrogation of gangster Bandhu Maan Singh Sekhon — a key conspirator in the three firing incidents outside comedian Kapil Sharma’s ‘Kap’s Café’ in Surrey, Canada — revealed that the gang had planned to kill Sharma if he failed to pay the extortion money. Sekhon, arrested on November 25 in Ludhiana, is described as the right-hand man of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) operative Harry Chatha and gangster Goldy Dhillon, the alleged mastermind behind the attacks. He had allegedly fled to India to lie low and was captured on CCTV riding shotgun with two of the shooters. The questioning also identified the shooters as Daljot Rehal and Gurjot, who reportedly wore body cameras to film the attacks and circulated the footage to amplify their threat.

Phagwara Police on November 28 arrested three persons, identified as Ghanshyam Tiwari, his mother Neeraj Kumari, and his brother Deepak Tiwari, for allegedly sheltering and financing the main assailants involved in the November 27 late-night firing at the residence of AAP leader and Yudh Nashian Virudh coordinator Daljit Raju, in Yamunanagar district, Haryana.

Tarn Taran Police on November 28 arrested Kanchanpreet Kaur, daughter of SAD leader Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, as part of efforts to dismantle the criminal network allegedly run by her Canada-based gangster husband, Amritpal Bath. Kanchanpreet faces multiple cases registered during the election period, including criminal intimidation and violations of the model code of conduct, as well as a separate case for allegedly using a fake passport. Police said she was arrested in connection with an FIR at Jhabal police station against Bath, who is booked for criminal intimidation during the bypoll campaign and faces over two dozen cases, including murder, attempt to murder, and UAPA charges. Authorities also alleged that she illegally entered India via the Nepal border, evading immigration checks.

Gurdaspur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Aditya said on November 27 that police are investigating the Khalistan Liberation Army’s (KLA) claim of carrying out a grenade attack outside the Gurdaspur Police Station on November 25, which left four people injured. The blast occurred a day before Chief Minister (CM) Bhagwant Mann’s scheduled visit to inaugurate a sugar mill. While police had initially attributed the incident to a truck’s tyre burst, a social media post from the “Khalistan Liberation Army” later claimed responsibility for the attack.

According to police, Punjab has seen a surge in incidents of grenade attacks over the past year in which miscreants, often acting on the instructions of banned organisations, have targeted police and other establishments. In the last three months alone, three such blasts occurred in the state—each initially dismissed as a non-terror incident. Since September 2024, at least 21 suspicious grenade attacks have been reported, 15 of them targeting police installations.
