Notorious gangster Harjinder Singh alias Harry, who allegedly had links with foreign-based gangsters and Pakistan-based anti-national elements, was killed in a police encounter in Amritsar in Amritsar district late on November 19. Police recovered two Pakistan-smuggled pistols—a 9 mm Glock and a .30-bore pistol—along with a bike and a mobile phone from the site. Harry had recently been released on bail. One of his accomplices, Sunny of Attari, managed to escape under the cover of darkness and nearby fields.

Notorious gangster Anmol Bishnoi, younger brother of jailed gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi and wanted in several major cases, was deported from the United States (US) to India and arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi on November 19. Later that day, he was sent to 11 days’ NIA custody by the Patiala House Court, New Delhi. The NIA, which had sought 15 days’ custody, told the court it needed time to gather further evidence and uncover the wider conspiracy in multiple cases. The agency also said it must identify the locations and roles of other members of the Bishnoi gang. Anmol is the 19th accused arrested in connection with the Lawrence-led terror syndicate. Officials said he faces at least 18 criminal cases in India, including the conspiracy to murder former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique, the firing outside Salman Khan’s Bandra home, and the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala.

Kapurthala Police on November 19 arrested three members of the Jagga Fukiwal extortion gang, identified as Amandeep alias Aman, Harjit Singh alias Jeeta, and Lovepreet alias Baba and seized nine country-made pistols with cartridges in Kapurthala district. Amandeep, the main accused, was an active member of the gang in Sultanpur Lodhi and played a key role in supplying weapons to local gangs for firing and extortion. The probe revealed that the accused were procuring country-made weapons from Madhya Pradesh and supplying them to criminal elements on the directions of their foreign-based handler.

On November 19, gangster Anmol Bishnoi’s cousin, Ramesh Bishnoi, urged the Union Government to ensure Anmol’s safety after his arrest by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in New Delhi following deportation from the United States (US). Ramesh, a paternal cousin of Anmol and Lawrence Bishnoi, said the family wants explicit protective measures to prevent any harm from rival gangs or others who may target him. He added that they had learned from media reports that rival gang members could pose a threat.

Ajay Ludhra, an astrologer from Punjab, filed a petition on November 19 claiming that he received life-threatening calls and extortion attempts from individuals associated with the Bishnoi gang. Ludhra stated that he received a direct threat from one ‘Harry Boxer’, a key aide of Anmol Bishnoi, the brother of incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi; both are classified as A-category criminals by the Punjab Police. The Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC) directed the authorities to take appropriate measures to ensure the petitioner's safety.

The United States (US) deported 200 Indian nationals, including gangster Anmol Bishnoi, two fugitives wanted in Punjab, and 197 undocumented migrants, on a flight scheduled to land at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi, at 10 am on November 19. Anmol, the younger brother of jailed gang leader Lawrence Bishnoi, is wanted in several major cases, including the murder of former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique and the April 2024 shooting outside actor Salman Khan’s residence in Mumbai. Intelligence sources stated that Anmol fled India in April 2022 on a forged passport, just weeks before singer Sidhu Moosewala was killed on May 29, 2022. He reportedly travelled on fraudulent Russian documents, moving between the US and Canada before being traced and detained. Investigators allege that he continued directing gang operations from abroad using encrypted platforms.

According to reports, Punjab Police played a key role in tracing gangster Anmol Bishnoi, who is set to be deported from the United States to India on November 19. In June 2022, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) discovered that Anmol had fled India in April 2022 on a forged passport along with wanted gangster Sachin Thapan. Their route reportedly included Kenya and other countries before reaching the US. Anmol is being deported to Mumbai, Maharashtra, which sought his return in connection with the Baba Siddique murder case. Punjab Police had also requested his deportation. Officials stated that they will take all necessary steps to seek his remand from Mumbai at the earliest.

Police on November 18 reportedly arrested two shooters involved in the killing of Naveen Arora, son of RSS leader Baldev Raj Arora, who was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants while returning home from his shop in Ferozepur on November 15. Sources said a few others are also being interrogated. The two detained individuals are believed to be contract killers, though the motive remains unclear. Earlier, a letter attributed to the pro-Khalistan outfit ‘Sher-e-Punjab Brigade’ claiming responsibility for the killing had gone viral on social media.

A transport company employee, identified as Makhan Singh, was shot dead at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) in Amritsar district on November 18. He was hit by four bullets and died on the spot. Police recovered six empty shells and are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the assailant. While the incident was initially believed to be linked to a dispute over bus timings, the Bambiha gang later through a social media post claimed responsibility, calling it an act of revenge for the deaths of their associates.

Officials said Varinder had earlier filed a police complaint stating he was receiving death threats.

Punjab Police on November 18 arrested two of the five men involved in plotting and executing the killing of Naveen Arora, son of an RSS leader, identified as Kanav and Harsh, in Ferozepur district. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ferozepur, Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said the motive is yet to be established. He stated that the conspiracy was hatched on November 13 during Kanav’s birthday party at Basti Bhatian Wali in Ferozepur district, where Jatin Kali of Badhi Jaimal Singh village offered INR 1 lakh to Kanav, Badal, Harsh, and another suspect whose identity has been withheld to protect the investigation. Sidhu added that all angles, including a dubious claim by a terror outfit, are being examined to determine what triggered the killing.

He added that surveillance has been intensified ahead of the fog season, as smugglers often exploit low visibility to deploy drones for cross-border drops.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has formally written to the filmmakers of the upcoming animated film Hind Di Chadar, based on the life of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, not to release it on November 21, stating that its depiction violates Sikh principles and could hurt religious sentiments. SGPC secretary Kulwant Singh Mannan said the film contains ‘several shortcomings’ in its portrayal of Sikh history and principles. He added that the directive follows instructions from Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargarj, Acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht.
