On November 6, the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC) granted regular bail to an accused in the 2020 Moga “Khalistan flag” case, identified as Jagwinder Singh alias Jagga, noting that he had spent over five years in custody with no progress in the trial. The Division Bench observed that the prosecution had failed to present “any worthwhile material” indicating a “meeting of minds or criminal conspiracy” between the appellant and the main accused, Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. The case stems from an August 14, 2020, incident in which two men allegedly hoisted a saffron-yellow flag bearing the word “Khalistan” atop the Moga Deputy Commissioner’s office and cut the rope of the Indian national flag.

To counter drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and drone infiltration along Punjab’s 553-kilometer international border, the state government has established a robust ‘Second Line of Defense’ combining modern technology, administrative vigilance, and public participation. In a landmark move, it has procured and deployed nine state-of-the-art anti-drone systems across border districts at a cost of INR 51.4 crore. These systems can detect drones within a 10-kilometer radius and locate their operators, making Punjab the first state in India to implement comprehensive anti-drone coverage. Additionally, the government is nearing completion of a project to install 3,000 AI-enabled CCTV cameras in border areas, with around 2,300 already operational to monitor suspicious activities and alert police control rooms in real time.

Shiromani Akali Dal (Punar Surjeet) president Giani Harpreet Singh on November 6 urged voters in the Tarn Taran assembly constituency to support independent candidate Mandeep Singh, backed by hardline Sikh groups. He said Mandeep’s victory would symbolize “a triumph of Panthic ideals and Sikh unity.” Mandeep Singh, fielded as a joint candidate by fundamentalist parties, is the brother of Sandeep Singh—currently jailed for the murders of Shiv Sena leader Sudhir Suri in November 2022 and former inspector Subba Singh in September 2025. Harpreet Singh described Sandeep as having made “a great sacrifice for the Panth” and as “a living example of the struggle against fake police encounters.”

Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has reportedly received a death threat from Pakistan-based Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) terrorist Harwinder Singh Sandhu alias Rinda. According to police officials, the message warned Warring to refrain from political campaigning until November 11, the polling date for the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election. Congress leader Rajvir Singh Bhullar also received a similar threat. Sources said the warnings surfaced after Warring’s remarks about former Union Home Minister Buta Singh.

On November 5, Punjab Police, on day 249 of its “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, registered 74 first information reports (FIRs), arrested 97 drug smugglers and seized 1.3 kg of heroin, 900 grams of opium, 28 kg of poppy husk, 14,959 intoxicant pills and INR 3.50 lakhs drug money from the possession of arrested persons, across the state.

Canada-based journalist and Hamdard TV anchor Gurpiar Singh, who was abducted by two Nihang men from his office in Mohali on November 4, was rescued by the Faridkot police from Kotkapura in Faridkot district early on the morning of November 5. However, the abductors managed to flee before the police arrived at the spot.

A social media post, purportedly made from the handle of gangster Anmol Bishnoi, surfaced on November 5 claiming responsibility for the killing of kabaddi player Gurwinder Singh alias Kinda, who was shot dead in Manki village of Samrala in Ludhiana district on November 3. In the post, two fugitives of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang — Aarzoo Bishnoi and Hari Boxer — purportedly took responsibility for the killing. Police also named gangster Ravi Rajgarh, currently lodged in Bathinda jail and a key aide of Anmol Bishnoi, as an accused in the case. However, Satinder Singh, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Ludhiana Range, commented on the social media post attributed to Anmol Bishnoi, stating, “It is probably an attempt to mislead the investigation, but we are verifying. We had already identified the four main accused in the case within hours of the incident. They had an old rivalry with the deceased. They are now trying to mislead the investigation by posting such claims in the name of Anmol Bishnoi, but things will become clearer after Ravi Rajgarh’s interrogation. Anmol Bishnoi is currently in the custody of the US authorities.”
