The Counter Intelligence wing in Bathinda, in a joint operation with the district police, on October 31 arrested three operatives of the banned Khalistani outfit Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), identified as Navjot Singh alias Jota, Gurpreet Singh, and Harjinder Singh, for writing pro-Khalistan slogans on school walls in Bhisiana and Mananwala villages of Bathinda district. Police recovered four mobile phones and a dongle from their possession. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused painted inflammatory slogans intended to incite public unrest and promote anti-national sentiments. Evidence also suggests they were receiving foreign funding for these activities. The slogans had appeared on the walls of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Bhisiana on the night of October 26-27and another school in Mananwala on the night of October 19–20.

Mansa Police on October 31 arrested two persons, identified as Gursahib Singh and Ramanpreet Singh, for their involvement in a firing incident at a pesticide shop on October 28, and recovered two pistols (.32 bore and .30 bore), nine cartridges, and six bullet shells from their possession, in Mansa district. During the arrest, Gursahib reportedly opened fire at the police team, prompting retaliation in which he sustained a bullet injury to his leg.

Investigations by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) revealed that foreign-based operatives of the Khalistani terror group Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) have been exploiting family ties and other vulnerabilities to recruit Punjabi youths into the outfit. “All the foreign handlers of BKI exploit family ties, lure youths with money, and involve them in anti-India activities,” a senior NIA official said on October 31. Over the past 10 months, at least a dozen such cases have surfaced. The revelation emerged during the probe into the BKI-orchestrated rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack on the Qila Lal Singh police station in Batala in Gurdaspur district. While 11 accused have been chargesheeted, the NIA is still tracking 11 others involved in the case.

On October 30, gangster Jagdeep Singh alias Jaggu Bhagwanpuria was brought to Batala from Silchar Jail in Assam and remanded to three-day police custody by a local court in connection with the May 26 murder of rival Gurpreet Singh Gora alias Gora Bariar outside a fuel station at Ghuman on the Sri Hargobindpur Road in Gurdaspur district. He was transported from Amritsar airport to Batala under heavy security to prevent any attack by rival gangs.

Gangster Jagdeep Singh alias Jaggu Bhagwanpuria has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court (HC) seeking directions for enhanced security during his imprisonment, police custody, and transfers. Citing an “extreme” threat to his life, he named rival gangsters, Dilpreet Baba, Lawrence Bishnoi, Neeta Deol, and Gurpreet Sekhon as potential threats. He requested the court to direct authorities to keep him in an area with continuous CCTV surveillance and video recording.

There is only love from my side for everyone, even if someone envies or trolls me. I will always spread the message of love. I have always done so. I don’t care how anyone feels about it. The Counter Intelligence (CI) wing of Amritsar Police on October 30 arrested three members of an illegal arms smuggling module, identified as Davinder Singh, Paramjit Singh alias Pamma, and Harmeet Singh alias Meetu, and seized nine sophisticated pistols with magazines from their possession near Gurdwara Baba Mohri Ji in Chogawan, Amritsar district. Preliminary investigations revealed that the trio was working under the directions of a Pakistan-based smuggler, and the weapons were meant for Sherpreet Singh alias Gulaba, a close associate of gangster Jobanjit Singh alias Billa Manga, to support criminal activities in Punjab.

According to reports, the arrest of a man carrying a hand grenade on October 26 led Ludhiana Police to uncover an international gang operated by mastermind Ajay alias Ajay Malaysia, from abroad. Police have arrested five suspects, including two lodged in Muktsar jail, and have sought assistance from central agencies for a joint probe into the cross-border smuggling of explosives. Investigations revealed that the gang’s members hailed from different states. Ajay’s parents from Badhayia village have publicly disowned him for his involvement in antisocial activities.

The banned Khalistani outfit, Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), on October 29, issued a threat against Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh for touching Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan’s feet during an episode of television show “Kaun Banega Crorepati.” SFJ chief Gurpatwant Singh Pannun claimed that Dosanjh had “insulted every victim of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi,” alleging Bachchan’s involvement in the violence. Pannun also threatened to disrupt Dosanjh’s upcoming show in Australia on November 1.

Police on October 29 arrested three suspects, identified as Baljinder Singh alias Gora, Vanspreet Singh, and Arshdeep Singh alias Gora, for a petrol bomb attack on a local shop in Moga district. Sources said the trio were allegedly recruited by foreign-based handlers Sandeep Singh alias Sunny and Dharmpreet Singh alias Dharma, who directed them to carry out the October 25 attack in Mari Mustafa village, where three unidentified men on a motorcycle hurled an explosive bottle at a shop.

On October 28, a Jalandhar court acquitted Jagtar Singh Tara in a 16-year-old case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and the Arms Act at Bhogpur, Jalandhar district. However, Tara, who is serving a life sentence in Burail Jail for the assassination of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, will remain imprisoned. The judgment noted that the prosecution failed to prove Tara’s association with Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) or that BKI was a terrorist organisation. It further stated that no evidence linked him to any conspiracy, terrorist act, or fund collection, and no incriminating material was recovered from him. The court acquitted Tara citing lack of evidence.

Officials from state and Central security agencies have warned that the recent surge in the smuggling of firearms from Pakistan into Punjab — particularly AK-47 rifles and rocket-propelled grenade launchers (RPGs) — points to renewed attempts to foment unrest in the state. A senior police official said that vigilant Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and the Punjab Police’s counter-intelligence unit have so far thwarted these efforts. “These weapons are not random recoveries; they reflect a sustained attempt to arm radical and criminal elements to destabilize the region,” he said, adding, “In several incidents last year, grenades were hurled but missed their targets. RPGs, however, can fire grenades with accuracy and from a distance, making them far more dangerous.”

According to the Border Security Force (BSF), as of October 23, the force has recovered 215 drones, 325 kg of narcotics including heroin and ICE, 180 weapons (mostly pistols), 12 grenades, and 10 kg of high explosives in Punjab alone. Additionally, BSF personnel have neutralized three cross-border intruders and apprehended 210 Indian nationals and 16 Pakistani nationals suspected of smuggling. Officials noted that these figures are in addition to the seizures and arrests made separately by the Punjab Police.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the consignment was smuggled from Pakistan, and the accused was on his way to deliver it to a local smuggler under the directions of a Pakistan-based handler.
