The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on June 16 attached a house in Amritsar district linked to a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative in a transnational narco-terror network spanning several countries. The property was registered in the name of the father of accused Ankush Kapoor, a key India-based operative of the network with links extending to Italy, Australia, Iran, Thailand, the UAE, and Pakistan. NIA investigations revealed Ankush's connections with a Dubai-based accused associated with the banned terrorist organisation. Arrested in 2025, Ankush was found to be a key conspirator involved in the smuggling, transportation, storage, and distribution of narcotics, as well as laundering terror proceeds for operatives in multiple countries.

According to reports, Ludhiana-based hotelier Mohit Negi, owner of Hotel Royal Manor on Pakhowal Road, has been booked for allegedly sheltering members of an extortion gang operating under the direction of Europe-based kingpin Namit Sharma, who is believed to be hiding in Portugal. The gang allegedly extorted businessmen and industrialists in Punjab and, in some cases, opened fire at the premises of those who refused to pay. Investigations revealed that Negi provided accommodation to gang members at his hotel before and after planned criminal activities. A case has been registered against him.

The Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana Police has arrested Mamta Rani, wife of gangster Sachin and an alleged associate of the Monu Gujjar and Noni Rana gangs, after bringing her back from Russia. A resident of Dhanora village in Karnal district, Mamta is accused of providing financial and logistical support to the gang. She was wanted in connection with a case registered by the STF in Yamunanagar district on March 15 under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Several gang members had earlier been arrested in the case, leading to the seizure of a large cache of illegal weapons. Investigations revealed that the accused had conspired to murder a car sale and purchase agent in Yamunanagar.

According to reports, French security forces on June 16 detained several individuals allegedly linked to the banned outfit Sikhs For Justice (SFJ) near the G7 Summit venue in Évian-les-Bains, France. The suspects were reportedly intercepted following intelligence inputs indicating a plan to disrupt the movement of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's motorcade after his bilateral meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. French anti-terror and local police units secured the area and took the suspects into custody without any reported disruption to the summit proceedings. Reports further stated that the detained individuals are facing legal action for allegedly breaching security restrictions around a protected diplomatic convoy.

On June 17, the Malaysian government deported two Indian fugitives allegedly involved in the April 27 blast on the railway track in the Shambhu area of Patiala district. Upon their arrival in India, they were arrested by security agencies. Authorities did not disclose the identities of the deportees. The operation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Royal Malaysian Police based on intelligence inputs shared by Indian security agencies.

On June 17, a series of bomb threat e-mails sent in the name of the Khalistan National Army triggered a high-security alert across Gujarat, prompting the evacuation of key government buildings and extensive anti-sabotage operations in multiple cities. The threatening e-mails were sent to the official inboxes of Municipal Commissioners and Mayors of the Vadodara, Surat, Bhavnagar, and Jamnagar Municipal Corporations. The messages contained inflammatory content, allegedly referred to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and claimed responsibility in the name of the Khalistan National Army.

The sender threatened to carry out blasts using a “human bomb” and warned of attacks on the Mayor’s office, the Municipal Corporation office, the Deputy Commissioner’s office, and railway tracks in the city.

A Sikh caretaker couple, Jagannath and his wife Asma Wanti, were shot dead inside a gurdwara in the Babu Mohallah area of Mardan, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan on June 17. According to Mardan District Police Officer Masood Ahmed, unidentified assailants opened fire inside the gurdwara, killing the couple. Police have launched an investigation and are working to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.

On June 17, the 148th day of Punjab Police’s statewide “war on gangsters” (Gangstran Te Vaar) campaign—Operation Prahar— the police conducted 498 raids, arrested 250 persons and recovered one weapon from their possession. Preventive action was taken against 92 individuals, while one person was verified and released after questioning. Three proclaimed offenders (POs) were also arrested during the operation.

Two accused, Aryan and Sunny Mehra, arrested for the June 13 shooting at Shri Kumar Medical Hall in Sector 11, Chandigarh, which resulted in the death of Janki Das, were injured in a police encounter in the Dhanas area of Chandigarh district, Chandigarh during the early hours of June 18. The duo had been arrested in Jammu and Kashmir and brought to Chandigarh on the night of June 17. According to police sources, the accused allegedly attempted to escape while being escorted to the Crime Branch office near the Dhanas jungle road. Police personnel responded by opening fire, injuring both suspects. They were later admitted to the Hospital for treatment.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on June 17 dismantled a Pakistan-linked narco-terror module and arrested three operatives—Harpreet Singh, Surajdeep Singh, and Jaspreet Singh and recovered an AK-47 rifle, a pistol, and narcotics allegedly smuggled into India through drone drops across the border, from Punjab. Investigators alleged that the trio was operating in coordination with a Pakistan-based drug syndicate and handlers linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

A Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) operative, Harwant Singh alias Harry, was taken into custody on a production warrant from Fatehpur Jail in Uttar Pradesh and placed on two-day police remand for further investigation. The development follows the arrest of Rajwinder Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran, and two other accused by Gharinda Police in Amritsar district, along with the recovery of two hand grenades and seven pistols.

On June 17, Canada enacted Bill C-9 after it received Royal Assent from the Governor General. The legislation amends the Criminal Code to strengthen measures against hate propaganda, hate crimes, and intimidation that obstructs access to religious and cultural institutions. The law creates new offences for intentionally provoking fear to impede a person's access to places of worship or facilities used by identifiable groups, as well as for obstructing or interfering with lawful access to such locations. The amendments have been welcomed by some community groups, who argue that they could help address incidents involving protests and intimidation outside religious sites. The legislation comes amid concerns over demonstrations by pro-Khalistan groups outside Hindu temples in Canada, including a recent protest at the Lakshmi Narayan Mandir in Surrey, British Columbia.

Punjab Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) on June 18 arrested three alleged drug smugglers, Balwinder Singh, Sukhdev Singh, and Nimmo Bai, and recovered 2.515 kg of heroin, an Italy-made .39-bore pistol, and 13 live cartridges from their possession, near the grain market at Ladhuka Mandi in Fazilka district. Preliminary investigations indicated that the narcotics and weapon had been smuggled from Pakistan through drone drops.

Bhadaur Police on June 18 arrested a Leading Aircraftman (LAC), Simratpal Singh and seized 3.015 kg of opium from his possession, near the bus stand of Jangiana village in Barnala district. According to police, he had arrived in the area by bus allegedly to deliver the narcotics when he was apprehended. The accused, who has been serving in the Indian Air Force for about 15 years, was remanded to two days of police custody for further investigation.
