Probe launched into hoisting of flags

The Raikot police have initiated a probe into an incident in which two saffron flags were found hoisted in separate places by some unknown persons on Friday morning.

The police are yet to ascertain whether the flags had been hoisted in good faith by some law-abiding citizens or on the instance of the Sikhs for Justice, a banned outfit.

Though the flags have symbol of ‘khanda’, no words suggesting association with Khalistan were inscribed on any part of the flags.

Investigation revealed that some unknown persons had hoisted two saffron flags in the town in the morning. One of the flags was hoisted on a pole installed near the main gate of the tehsil office while another was found hoisted on a water tank at the Civil Hospital.

Having received information from some passers-by, Raikot SDM Himanshu Gupta advised the police to investigate the matter, following which police personnel, led by SHO (City) Hira Singh, inspected the spot and got the flags removed. Raikot DSP Sukhnaj Singh said the city police had initiated a probe into the matter.
