Punjab police bust drug racket, seize 40 lakh tablets, capsules worth over Rs 4 crore; 4 people arrested

The Punjab Police on Friday claimed to have arrested four people after 40 lakh intoxicating tablets, capsules and injections worth around Rs 4-5 crore were seized in two hauls in Barnala and Mathura.

Punjab’s Director General of Police Dinkar Gupta said at a press conference that police were tipped off about a possible illegal drug trade. They first arrested a suspect they identified as Mohan Lal from Barnala district, who had on his person 800 intoxicating tablets (Alprasafe 0.5 mg).

His arrest they led to two more arrests in Barnala—suspects identified as Balwinder Kumar and Naresh Mittal. Kumar and Mittal were arrested from two drug stores in Barnala—the first from Om Shiva Medical Hall and the second from Biru Ram Thakur Dass Medical store.
